If you did a bit research on hair transplant, you probably have seen follicular hair extraction or FUE more than couple of times. FUE is the most popular and common hair extraction method for hair transplant operations. On contrary to common belief, FUE alone is not a hair transplantation.
As the name suggest, this method is only an extraction method. This hair extraction method must be completed with a hair implant method such as Slit or Sapphire. Combination of hair extraction and hair implant is the hair transplant process.
Follicular Hair Extraction Application
When follicular hair extraction is applied, doctor will collect hair roots that are called grafts. Hair extraction is completed with special handheld motors called punches. During application, local anaesthesia is applied to the back of the head. This way, patients can feel comfortable and there will be no pain during the extraction.
FUE punches are special devices designed for this process only. Collected hair roots are kept in a special solution before hair implanting. In this solution, all remaining tissues on hair roots are cleaned. This way, hair roots are prepared for implanting stage of the hair transplant.
Why Choose FUE Over FUT?
Many of the patients who are considering hair transplant are asking this question. Why do we need to choose FUE over FUT? FUT or follicular unit transplant is an old hair extraction method. When hair transplant first started, this was the main practice.
But with new developments, FUT is no longer practices. There might be some rare cases but in general, FUT is no longer selected. Instead follicular hair extraction or FUE is the most common method. FUE has faster recovery period and there is no scarring after the operation. Also, hair roots can be collected more accurately and overall results are more successful.
